words: Thinking About Shooting

Well, I’m glad to see Redmemory1 has posted again.

I hope she gave in to wanting to go to the range.

I hope she posts about how well she shot.

I object to her feeling that she has to “deserve” going to the range.

But at the same time, I understand the feeling

Any day you can get through, Red, without falling off, you earned a range trip.

If that isn’t a good enough goal, then how about every week you get through?

Whatever the goal you set, when you achieve it, collect the reward!

So. How’d you do?

  1. I haven’t gotten there yet but it is on the schedule for this week. I am not doing anything until I get through that HUGE pile of laundry, then the range. You are right, it is turning into a reward for me. I think that’s probably good. As soon as I go, I will report. alandp said something about orange stickies I can get to see my shots better on the paper. Any comment on that?

  2. Shoot ‘n’ See targets are neat, but pricy.

    Paper plates work fine.

I’ve been shooting a lot closer lately.30 feet and less.

The indoor range I’ve been going to has remote control target feeds.
I have a friend start the target from 30 feet, while I have my gun holstered.
As soon as the target starts moving, I draw and fire two shots.
He releases the switch to stop the target at the sound of the second shot, and we measure how close it got.
Any closer than 4 feet, the target wins.
Goal is two shots well on target outside 8 feet.
    Sounds easy, yes?

I lost every run the first fifty trys, and still lose 50% of the time from missing one of the two shots.
Oh, Target is a standard bianchi, with a 9″ paper plate in the chest locationHits are only counted if entirely on the paper plate.

  3. Remote control target feeds – OK I need to call around. That sounds like fun. Now I just wait for a good strong wind to move the paper!
