Another Denver Protest?

David Drake is telling us about the latest protest march in Denver.

It seems the Rodents commonly refered to as "targets" by varmit hunters, are staging an uprising in opposition to some Colorado state legeslation.

I confess to not understanding their point of view, as, whenever I see one, all I can think of is "front sight, stead<BANG>y, Call the shot!

So for me, the money quote at Davids is

Her proposal has its opponents. "She's just catering and pandering to her constituents," counters Colorado Republican State Representative Wolfgang Von Braun. Von Braun is the author of House Bill H.R. 4488 which, in his words, will permit anyone subject to prairie dog infiltration to legally "blow their furry little heads off with a .223 caliber rifle," says Von Braun.

 I like H.R. 4488

But, Picket Pins are not the only varmits out there. So why be species specific?

  1. I am alittle confused here. But be aware that I live in an unincorporated part of Boulder County and not Boulder city.

Last year I had prairie dogs in my yard digging holes. A call to the state Division of Wildlife confirmed that I did not need a small game permit to shoot as damage control is not hunting. Any animal in my yard can be taken without concern.

I made a call to the county sheriff’s office and told them that if they got a ‘shots fired’ call on my street, just walk around to the back yard. They said, ‘No problem’.

I then sat on my deck and took one with a .22. He was buried on one of their tunnels and covered over. I have not had any trouble since.

Those living within Boulder city limits would be crucified for similar behavior.

  2. Hi GLN – Glad you were able to use the .22 without having to jump through all the permit hoops. I think living in an unincorporated part of Boulder is the deciding factor in what you were able to do. While my post that TIHS linked to is a parody, the information that I base it on is from the linked article in my post from the Jacksonhole Star Tribune, which notes that prairie dog vs man stage being set between the enviro-lunatics and those that feel shooting varmints such as prairie dogs is no brainer. I don’t know if this helped or not, but did want to comment after reading you comment.

And as always, thanks for the mention THIS.

  3. So, I’m not the only one that thinks “target?”
    Good
Now I don’t feel so lonely.

Actualy, here in Ohio, I hunt groundhogs for farmers bounties. I ask $5.00 per hit, and usualy get “I’ll let you hunt deer in the fall.” Which I accept. 🙂
